Guests at Edo’s Camp, based in its own private nature conservancy on the outskirts of the Central Kalahari, enjoy the privileged opportunity to track white rhino on foot with a San-Bushman guide. At the last count, twelve white rhino had been successfully introduced and integrated into the reserve, as part of wider rhino conservation efforts within Botswana. They are now fully settled within this environment and relatively accustomed to humans approaching on foot, so the chances of getting reasonably close to these imposing animals are excellent. The excursion will usually involve setting off by vehicle towards areas where the rhino have recently been spied, and then continuing on foot once sure signs of the rhino’s whereabouts have been detected. With a Bushman guide, the tracking combines the thrill of getting up close and personal to big game with the chance to learn more about how these unique people have tracked animals for countless centuries. This activity is very special, and as the only opportunity that we are aware of to track rhino on foot in Botswana, it makes a stay at Edo’s very attractive.
