Day 1
Fly overnight to Johannesburg.
Day 2
Board a connecting flight to Maun, a journey which should take roughly 90 minutes. Here you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel for a relaxing one night stay to recharge your batteries after the journey.
Day 3
Your hire car will be delivered this morning and you will be briefed before your first drive. Travelling south for roughly three hours, your camp near Ghanzi is just outside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, where you'll stay for three nights.
Day 4
There are fascinating guided San-Bushman cultural experiences to enjoy. A Bushman guide will introduce you to his people's history, survival techniques, tracking methods, family units and much more in a fascinating excursion.
Day 5
There may be the opportunity to track white rhino on foot while you are here, with game drives and nature walks also possible.
Day 6
After breakfast you will drive to a camp north of the Central Kalahari, where the landscapes and activities are subtly different. Here you will stay for two nights to gain an understanding of the northern sector of the reserve, which usually boasts the highest concentration of game.
Day 7
A day trip to the fabled Deception Valley and Deception Pan inside the game reserve offers access to varied wildlife viewing and fascinating historical tails.
Day 8
Today it's a long drive north east towards Gweta, in the Makgadikgadi Pans region. Here you will enjoy a three night stay at a vibrant camp just outside the Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pan National Parks.
Day 9
Activities in the Makgadikgadi area are extremely varied, from further Bushman experiences and game drives to quad biking and horse riding.
Day 10
Today you might want to enjoy a visit to the Ntwetwe Pan, where a sleepout under the stars is even possible if you book in advance. If you visit during the vast zebra and blue wildebeest migration, the game viewing here can be exceptional.
Day 11
An early start for the drive back to Maun in time for a short flight on to Johannesburg. Your final trip is an overnight flight back home.
Day 12
Arrive back in the UK.

Everything we do is tailor-made; our itineraries are just suggestions to give you an idea of what is possible. Please contact us so we can tailor the perfect holiday exclusively for you.

Combining the Central Kalahari Game Reserve with the Makgadikgadi Pans region can be difficult, with few scheduled light aircraft transfers between the two areas and charter costs high. So this itinerary offers the chance to self-drive in Central Botswana, visiting three very different areas that provide a full picture of the Kalahari. The connecting roads are generally good (if a little dull) but the combination of unforgettable landscapes, indigenous cultures and emerald season wildlife spectacles that you can take in makes the driving more than worthwhile!
