The Chobe National Park is mainly renowned for larger accommodations with plenty of all-day entertainment and bustle, but Chobe Under Canvas offers a very different experience. Operated by one of Africa’s premier safari companies, &Beyond, the aim is to bring a vintage safari tented camp feel to Chobe, with semi-permanent sites and intimate guiding and service for a small number of guests. Camp is pitched in a range of sites close to wildlife and the river, but far enough away from civilisation to provide an authentic feel of the bush. Unlike most Chobe lodges, camp is set up within the park, meaning that activities can commence early, hitting the game drive tracks and the riverfront before visitors from outside the park arrive.

Although the tents are comparatively simple, they are extremely comfortable and stylishly done, with al fresco en-suite bucket showers, soft beds, luxury linen, and comfortable chairs set up in front of your tent for daytime relaxation. There are a maximum of five tents in camp at any time, moving to a new site each 5-6 days but usually erected within the woodland, where meals are enjoyed under a small canvas mess and drinks partaken round a campfire. Game drives and boat cruises are offered, and just relaxing in camp to absorb the atmosphere of wild Africa is a game viewing activity in itself.
