Competing with Zarafa for the title of most luxurious camp in the Linyanti Wetlands, King’s Pool is a Wilderness Safaris Premier Camp in a prime location overlooking the Linyanti River and the King’s Pool waterhole. The nine safari tents are almost unnecessarily opulent but none of the guests are complaining, with a private plunge pool and sala on the decks to enjoy exclusive game viewing throughout the day. All of the tents have spacious lounge areas, king size four poster beds, tiled bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers and a pair of Swarovski binoculars provided. The aesthetic is contemporary and at times a little dark, but it is all very grand and arguably somewhat masculine in style, right down to the incongruous provision of an exercise mat and weights in each room!
The main area is also raised on decks and connected to all of the rooms by an elevated walkway. Here there is a plush lounge, a bar, swimming pool and dining areas both inside and al fresco, while an open air boma hosts after dinner drinks around a campfire. Activities from camp include day and night game drives, guided walks, visits to a nearby sunken hide and river cruises at certain times of year, seeking out colourful birdlife and boisterous hippo pods amongst the reed beds and papyrus. King’s Pool is an extremely impressive, uniquely styled camp that is not to everyone’s taste, but for enthusiasts it is love at first sight!
