The private Shinde Concession is a real Okavango wildlife hotspot, bordered to the south by the Moremi Game Reserve and also neighbouring the renowned Vumbura and Kwara Concessions. Although only a relatively small area, the varying habitats within the reserve permit a full range of Delta activities, with Shinde Camp offering day and night game drives, walking safaris, river cruises and sometimes mokoro trips. In this way, it is neither a wet or dry camp, which makes it a very strong attraction for visitors hoping to experience the full range of Delta experiences within a limited timeframe.
The camp itself is intriguingly designed and extremely comfortable, with eight vintage safari tents raised on wooden decks overlooking a game rich plain. Each has en-suite facilities, relatively minimal but sophisticated furnishings and a shaded viewing deck, while there is a small swimming pool at ground level close to the tents. The main lodge area is far more ostentatious, a unique treehouse design with various decks and platforms, including a cosy lounge, a bar next to a firepit and a very grand dining deck, complete with glitzy chandelier and a huge, solid wood dining table. In a reserve with a very strong big cat and predator presence, you are also likely to see a diverse selection of antelope species, including tsessebe, red lechwe, kudu and sable, all sought out by some of Botswana’s most experienced guides.
